The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Sunday that superstar Sidney Crosby will be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery for a broken jaw. Crosby was struck in the face with a puck early in the first period of Saturday's 2-0 win over the New York Islanders. The puck appeared to catch Crosby square on the chin from a shot by defenseman Brooks Orpik.

Crosby leads the league with 41 assists and 56 points, powering the Penguins to the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Penguins have even vaulted ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks in overall points -- although Pittsburgh has played more games -- as the Pens have enjoyed a 15-0-0 record through the month of March.
The Penguins recently made a slew of moves ahead of the NHL trade deadline, acquiring Jarome Iginla, Douglas Murray and Brenden Morrow as the franchise prepares for an all-in push for the Stanley Cup this season.
The Penguins next face the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.
