Your yearly reminder ...

This is your yearly reminder that one of these guys ...

... is a full-fledged baseball historian.

Peter J. Nash, a baseball author, historian and filmmaker, can eloquently describe players from 2006. What makes him different from many other fans is that he can also smoothly discuss players from 1846. Nash knows exhaustive details about the earliest days of baseball, endless specifics about when the game was born.

With passion in his voice, he mentions ancient clubs like the Brooklyn Excelsiors and the New York Gothams. But something else about Nash’s cool, gritty voice makes him distinctive, something that he divulges if anyone bothers to ask. Peter J. Nash was once known as Prime Minister Pete Nice.

It never gets old -- at least if you’re a combination baseball and ‘80s-hip-hop wonk like me -- and you need to be reminded once a year. If you were wondering what the connection between the Brooklyn Excelsiors and MF Doom was, here you go.

(You weren’t wondering that.)
