The Penske Racing cars of Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano both had parts confiscated by NASCAR just prior to the start of Saturday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway.

The Penske Racing cars of Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano were caught with illegal parts prior to Saturday’s NASCAR.

The parts, believed to be related to the rear-end housing, were taken when both the 2 and 22 teams failed pre-race technical inspection. NASCAR forced the teams to make modifications to their cars, and it took multiple attempts for both to be approved to compete in the NRA 500.
Joey Logano’s No. 22 Ford Fusion actually didn’t get cleared by NASCAR until just moments before the field rolled off for its pace laps. Because he was not lined up in time, he was forced start at the rear of the 43-car field.
Keselowski was allowed to keep his 16th-place starting position. Logano would have started 18th.
Judging by precedent, if NASCAR deems the parts to be illegal upon further inspection, Penske crew chiefs Paul Wolfe (2) and Todd Gordon (22) will be suspended six weeks and fined $100,000. Some sort of points deduction will also be included.
A decision by NASCAR whether to issue penalties will likely come Monday or Tuesday.
