NCAA Baseball scores 2013: LSU takes series over Arkansas

The Tigers came away with an extra-innings win against one of the top 10 teams in the nation. Who else emerged victorious from Sunday’s action?

The No. 2 LSU Tigers needed extra innings to knock off the No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks Sunday. Sean McMullen brought home an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th, and after another run was added from a Raph Rhymes single, the Tigers ultimately came out on top 5-3 to take the series.

Shortstop Alex Bregman went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI to lead the Tigers to their 34th win of the season. Cody Glenn was roughed up in a short outing LSU, giving up five hits and three runs in 3 innings of work. Fortunately for him, Arkansas' Randall Fant also gave up three runs in just 2 innings.

The Razorbacks took Saturday’s game 8-3, but Sunday’s defeat handed the series to the Tigers.

No. 1 North Carolina cruised to a 3-0 win over Virginia Tech. Hobbs Johnson finally captured his first win of the season in his eighth start, recording six shutout innings. The Tar Heels improved to 34-2 in 2013 with the series sweep over the Hokies.

Third-ranked Vanderbilt routed Missouri 16-4 to pull off a sweep of its own. Center fielder Connor Harrell drove in four runs on 4-for-6 hitting. Second baseman Tony Kemp finished a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, while Spencer Navin crushed a three-run homer, his first of the season.

UC Santa Barbara pulled off a 2-0 upset over No. 4 Cal State Fullerton, while No. 19 Georgia Tech defeated No. 5 Virginia 3-2. For more results from Sunday’s schedule, click here.
