Jack Edwards and Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk might make good buddies.
Jack Edwards has some... uh, thoughts about Matt Cooke getting nominated for the Masterton Trophy last season
NESN’s Bruins play-by-play man doesn’t quite buy that Cooke has changed.

The NESN play-by-play man was noting that Penguins forward Matt Cooke had been engaging with a member of the Bruins, and then chose to go off on the Pittsburgh media and Cooke himself, for having nominated the Penguin forward for Masterton Trophy last season. He had some, uh, choice words.
For those not familiar with history, Sirhan Sirhan is the man who assassinated Robert F. Kennedy. So yeah, these are not exactly the same people.
I know Edwards used the example of Cooke’s hit on Marc Savard -- which ended Savard’s career, though it was not an illegal hit at the time -- as “essentially assassinating” the former Boston forward. Still, this is probably about as good an example of judgement on Edwards’ part as he believes the Pittsburgh media showed. I know Edwards enjoys himself, and I’m no fan of outrage, but... maybe he could’ve thought of something better to compare Matt Cooke getting nominated for an award to right there.
UPDATE: Edwards has offered a bit of contrition for his words.
I am sorry for insulting Matt Cooke, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the National Hockey League, and anyone else upset by my Cooke comments.

I know some will see it as hollow, but good for Jack for immediately owning up to what he said.
