Tim Tebow not likely on Seahawks’ radar, per report

While the Seahawks are in the market for a back-up quarterback for Russell Wilson, the Jets’ Tim Tebow is not thought to be a target of interest.

The Seahawks are going to put this to rest right away.

They are not interested in acquiring Jets quarterback Tim Tebow, according to the Seattle Times.

The report indicates four potential candidates to vie for back-up duties behind Russell Wilson -- Seneca Wallace, Tyler Thigpen, Brady Quinn and Matt Leinart. Seattle dealt former back-up Matt Flynn to Oakland for a fifth-round pick in 2014 and a conditional pick in 2015.

For the first time since Pete Carroll took over as coach of the Seahawks in 2010, Seattle will have continuity among its starters at quarterback. Matt Hasselbeck was its starter in 2010, Tarvaris Jackson took over in 2011 and Wilson won the starting job over Flynn in 2012. Wilson will start for what seems to be a very long time in Seattle, so the question becomes, who will back him up?

Of the four passers listed in the report, none of them seem to fit the mold of the zone-read option style the Seahawks employ with Wilson. Wallace, a former Seahawks player, is probably the most athletic, but recent stints in Cleveland did not show him to be an outstanding running threat.

Tebow could fill that role, only if Wilson is unable to play (read: there would be no competition between the two). It was rumored that the Seahawks may have been interested, but the fact they're looking for a free agent indicates they do not wish to trade for him. Tebow is currently signed with the Jets for the 2013 season.

Wallace was out of football in 2012 after having been released by Cleveland. Thigpen was a back-up in Buffalo, Leinart was in Oakland and Quinn was with Kansas City.
