WrestleMania 29 results: The Miz takes Intercontinental Title by submitting Wade Barrett
The Miz claimed the first win of WrestleMania 29, defeating Wade Barrett with a figure-four leglock. And now, the real fights.
Barrett was introduced as a ‘native of Preston, UK’ who ‘is a working class, bare-knuckled fighter’. If you’ve ever met anyone from Lancashire, they don’t talk like Wade Barrett. However, he lives up to the other part of his description, the part that implied he’s a scrappy dude who doesn’t exactly rely on finesse or technical prowess. Early in the bout, he attacked the groin of The Miz on multiple occasions.
About five minutes into the fight, Barrett tried to finish things off with a bull hammer elbow, but Miz avoided it and caught Barrett in a leglock. Barrett broke free, picked up Miz and slammed him hard to the mat before covering, but Miz broke out, then re-applied the hold. Barrett tapped out, and Miz claimed the Intercontinental Title.
According to the commentary team, Miz’s mother is in the crowd. She must be proud.
