Undertaker vs. CM Punk: The streak continues at WrestleMania 29

The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania is still going. CM Punk dominated for most of their match, but Taker finished him off with a Tombstone.

The best streak in sports entertainment lives on. The Undertaker is 21-0 after he defeated CM Punk in an epic match, surviving a diving elbow onto the Spanish announcers’ table and some cheap tactics to defeat ‘The Best in the World’.

Quickly, some background: Bill Moody, the man who played The Undertaker’s long-time manager Paul Bearer in the WWE, died (in real life, not in the WWE) back in March. CM Punk not only disrespected the memory of Taker’s manager, but stole his urn and dumped his ashes on Taker. WWE did a good job of building up the personal angle here.

Punk is generally a huge smartass who is straight-edge, but willing to use questionable tactics to win wrestling matches. He started trying to trick Undertaker into disobeying the referee’s instructions and leaving the ring very early on, and continued throughout the match.

Undertaker was nearly counted out late in the match after Punk delivered a flying elbow into Taker, who was lying on the Spanish announcer table. Unfathomably, the table didn’t collapse, but Taker took nine seconds to get back to the ring. He hit Punk with a near finisher of his own shortly afterwards, delivering a Tombstone Piledriver, but Punk unexpectedly kicked out.

In similar fashion, Undertaker kicked out of Punk’s appeared finish after he achieved a pin by less than fair means. After the referee was inadvertently incapacitated, Punk’s manager Paul Heyman handed him the urn that once contained Paul Bearer’s ashes. Punk hit him with it and mocked Undertaker by using his signature cross-arm pin, but Taker kicked out. Minutes later, he finished off Punk with a second Tombstone and pinned him to extend his streak to 21-0.
