Preakness 2013: Mylute confirmed as 8th starter

After finishing in fifth place in the Kentucky Derby, Mylute will run in the Preakness.

Andy Lyons

Mylute will run in the 138th annual Preakness Stakes on May 18 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, trainer Tom Amoss informed the Maryland Jockey Club on Saturday, via Daily Racing Form’s Marty McGee.

Mylute finished in fifth place in the Kentucky Derby, narrowly missing out on the show position after ending two heads behind Revolutionary and Normandy Invasion. He earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 99.

Rosie Napravnik broke her own record for the best finish by a female jockey as a result of Mylute's strong run at the Derby. She will ride Mylute once again at the Preakness, becoming just the third female jockey to ride in the race.

Kentucky Derby winner Orb is expected to be the favorite in the second leg of the Triple Crown, which will air next Saturday at 6:24 p.m. ET on NBC.
