After finishing with a 10-3 record in 2013, the Maryland Terrapins men’s lacrosse team has little to show for their impressive season. The Cornell Big Red ended Maryland’s championship hopes Sunday, crushing the Terrapins 16-8 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Maryland entered as the No. 6 seed, while Cornell didn’t make the top eight after a 12-3 season. Rob Pannell added in four goals and three assists, while Steve Mock scored four goals as well for the Big Red in their rout.
Cornell now moves on to face No. 3 Ohio State on May 18. The Buckeyes easily ousted Towson, winning 16-6 in their Round 1 matchup. Jesse King led the way with four goals.
Duke narrowly avoided a first-round letdown after defeating Loyola Maryland 12-11 in double overtime. The Blue Devils face the No. 2 North Carolina Tar Heels in the quarterfinals. Top-ranked Syracuse struggled to pull away from Bryant, but eventually scored three fourth-quarter goals to finish with a 12-7 victory. The Orange face Yale next.
