The 2013 Preakness Stakes is approaching, and while the second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown doesn’t begin until Saturday, this week’s schedule in Baltimore, Md., has a few highlights to look for leading up to the weekend.
Preakness Stakes 2013 schedule: Main event on Saturday afternoon
The Preakness won’t be run until Saturday, May 18, but there are multiple events leading up to it to keep everyone occupied.

The post position draw for Saturday’s race will be held Wednesday afternoon. Historically, post No. 6 produced the most winners, as 15 horses have won from this starting point.
Thirteen undercard races are set to be run on Friday. The Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, which dates back to 1919, headlines the group, a race with a purse of $500,000. The Pimlico Special, Pimlico “Battle of the Sexes” Jockey Challenge and Lady Legends for the Cure IV Race are some of the more notable races for May 17.
Finally, the 138th edition of the Preakness Stakes begins Saturday. Live coverage of the race begins at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC, with post time coming around 6:20 p.m. Can Orb pull off his sixth straight win? If he emerges victorious, the media uproar over a potential Triple Crown winner will begin immediately afterward.
