Washington Capitals forward Martin Erat sustained a dislocated elbow during the team's Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the New York Rangers, according to multiple accounts on Wednesday morning.

Martin Erat sustained a dislocated elbow during the first-round of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Erat sustained the injury during Game 4 when attempting to complete a defensive play against Rangers forward Derek Stepan. Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin also attempted to breakup the attack by administering a hit to Stepan. In the process of doing so, Ovechkin knocked both Erat and Stepan to the ice.
At the time, it appeared as though Erat had sustained some kind of injury to his wrist. His glove had fallen off during the collision, which potentially could have left his wrist susceptible to damage. Ultimately, that wasn’t the case.
In the event that Washington had advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinal, Erat would likely have been available to play in the second round, though he was unable to play in the final three games of the quarterfinal series.
