NHL Stadium Series: Rangers to play 2 games at Yankee Stadium

The NHL has confirmed two outdoor games will take place at Yankee Stadium next season.

The NHL announced that Yankees Stadium will host two outdoor games during the 2013-14 regular season as part of the Stadium Series. The New York Rangers will participate in both games.

The first contest will take place on Jan. 26 and will pit the Rangers against the New Jersey Devils at 12:30 p.m. ET. The second game will be held three days later when the New York Islanders face-off against the Rangers at 7:30 p.m. ET on Jan 29.

It should be noted that the 2014 Super Bowl will also be taking place at Metlife Stadium -- the home of the New York Giants and Jets -- on Feb. 2.

These are the third and fourth games to be confirmed as part of the Stadium Series. In addition, the Chicago Blackhawks will host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field, and the Los Angeles Kings will host the Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium. According to previous reports, it is expected that a fifth game will be announced sometime in the future.

The Stadium Series will act as a way for the league to host multiple outdoor events in addition to the Winter Classic. The 2014 Winter Classic will be hosted at the University of Michigan's football stadium and will feature the Detroit Red Wings against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
