Positives: Titletown Five gets a jockey switch ahead of his Preakness run as Julien Leparoux takes over in the irons. Perhaps Leparoux can get this colt to settle in the early stages in order to ration his early speed, which might be the only way this guy can get the 1 3/16th mile distance of the Preakness. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas has won the Preakness five times in his Hall of Fame career, the last coming in 1999 with Charismatic.
Negatives: He’s never won a stakes race and he’s yet to win while racing around two turns. And while he’s got some stamina on the top have of his pedigree from his sire Tiznow, the bottom half is all speed. Unless the other jockeys/horses allow Titletown Five to simply walk to the front of the pack and stroll around the course, it’s difficult to picture this colt with a legitimate shot to win on Saturday.
