Post time favorite Summer Applause stalked the early speed of Daydreamin Gracie, moved to the lead at the top of the stretch and pulled away to win the Grade 3 Dupont Distaff on the Preakness undercard at Pimlico Race Course.
Preakness 2013 Results: Summer Applause Much The Best in Dupont Distaff
The first graded stakes race on the Preakness undercard ends up an all-chalk trifecta.

Daydreamin Gracie broke well from the gate and set moderate fraction through the first half mile before surrendering the lead to Moon Philly at the mid-way point on the far turn. Moon Philly’s turn as the leader lasted only a moment as Summer Applause, full of run as the field hit the top of the stretch, assumed command of the race all the way to the wire. Moon Philly faded in the stretch and was passed by Sea Island and Brushed by a Star in the final furlong.
Summer Applause is as four-year-old filly by Harlan’s Holiday out of a Royal Academy mare (Summer Exhibition), trained by Chad Brown and ridden by John Velazquez.
