Preakness results 2013: Sage Valley rolls home in the Maryland Sprint Handicap

Sage Valley won his fourth race in a row with a big victory on the Preakness undercard.

USA TODAY Sports

Sage Valley rolled three wide off the far turn, put away the early pacesetter Manito and held off the late charge of Hardened Wildcat to win the Grade 3 Maryland Sprint Handicap at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday. Laurie’s Rocket broke a bit slowly from the starting gate but ran on well in the final furlong to finish third. Long shot Warrioroftheroses held on to the fourth position to round out a superfecta that paid $317.60 for a $1 base wager.

Rain began to fall at Pimlico about an hour prior to the Maryland Sprint, but the main track remains rated as “fast” for the time being.

Sage Valley is a four-year-old colt by Discreet Cat out of a Cryptoclearance mare (Ashwood C C), trained by Rudy Rodriguez and ridden by John Velazquez.
