Pianist broke well from the starting gate, grabbed a clear lead on the backstretch through strong fractions, extended the lead entering the homestretch and finished up strong to win the Grade 3 Gallorette Handicap on the Preakness undercard. Hard Not To Like stumbled badly leaving the starting gate but rallied to finish second at the wire. Appealing Cat finished third to complete the trifecta.
2013 Preakness results: Pianist goes gate to wire in the Gallorette
It was sweet music at Pimlico as Pianist won the Gallorette on the Preakness undercard.

Samitar (GB), winner of the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas and Grade 1 Garden City Stakes in 2012, went to the starting gate as the 6/5 betting favorite but never threatened the winner at any time in the race.
Pianist is a four-year-old filly by More Than Ready out of a Red Ransom mare (Red Piano), trained by Chad Brown and ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith.
