Preakness 2013 results: Sky Ring scores at 24/1 in the Dixie Stakes
The Preakness day excitement continued to build as long shot Sky Ring won the Dixie Stakes, the final undercard race of the day.

Humble and Hungry and Optimizer stalked the early speed of Sky Ring but didn’t have enough left in the tank when they hit the top of the stretch to seriously challenge the winner. Wilcox Inn put in a spirited run down the middle of the course in the final quarter-mile to finish second. Optimizer finished third, and Howe Great rounded out the top four.
The large odds on the winner keyed big payouts at the betting windows, including a superfecta that paid $5,057.3 for a $1 base wager.
The Dixie Stakes, the final undercard race prior to the running of the Preakness, is a 1 1/8-mile race on the Pimlico turf course.
