Ducks vs. Red Wings Game 2 Update: Detroit jumps Anaheim early

Scoring in the first minute is a great way to start a game. Scoring twice in the first five minutes is even better.

Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock was not happy with his team's effort in their Game 1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

Safe to say his players heeded his message to start Game 2.

Justin Abdelkader opened scoring with a shot that Jonas Hiller probably should have stopped, sniping high from above the faceoff circles just 48 seconds into the game:

If that shot was fortuitous, the Red Wings’ 2-0 lead at the first intermission is not.

Damien Brunner followed it up with a goal of his own less than four minutes later, assisted by defenseman Kyle Quincey. The Red Wings held on despite taking a couple of bad penalties (and being lucky not to be called for more) and facing a 21-second Ducks 5-on-3 power play.

The Wings were outshot 12-8 by the end of 20 minutes, but with a 2-0 lead they are sitting right where they want to be.
