Rafael Nadal is attempting to win his fourth straight French Open at Roland Garros, while reigning women’s champion Maria Sharapova is seeking her fifth career Grand Slam title. The first round began on Sunday, with Serena Williams and Roger Federer winning their opening matches in dominant fashion.

Novak Djokovic enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed on the men’s side, but Nadal’s track record at the event makes him the player to watch. Venus Williams was eliminated in the first round, falling to Urszula Radwanska in the first upset of the tournament.

The first round will conclude Tuesday, with the second round finishing up Thursday. The women’s final takes place June 8 and the men’s final is Sunday, June 9.

The French Open, in its 112th year, is the second of tennis’ four Grand Slam events. In addition to singles, doubles and mixed doubles play, the next two weeks will feature junior and wheelchair players.
