Mayweather vs. Guerrero results: J’Leon Love wins controversial split decision over Gabe Rosado

The pay-per-view broadcast for Floyd Mayweather vs. Robert Guerrero got underway with a bout between J’Leon Love and Gabriel Rosado. For the undefeated Love, a The Money Team fighter, it was the biggest step up in his career as he took on a former world title challenger. There were questions about Love’s fitness, however. He came in overweight and had to forfeit a portion of his purse as a penalty.

Rosado appeared to be wanting to jab with Love and find space for a right hand counter if it opened up. Love’s quick jab became his most effective weapon in the early going, forcing Rosado to fight a bit of an uncomfortable fight until late in the second round when Rosado stung him with a series of hard shots, forcing him to hang on until the bell.

Love looked like he was there to be hit but Rosado did hesitate for much of the early rounds, but landed when he found the will to let his right hand go down the middle.

After a series of very close rounds, Rosado was able to lands a hard right hand that dropped Love to his backside at the end of the sixth round. Love got up and made it out of the round, but the 10-8 round in a very close fight could have had a major impact on the fight.

Love would come back from the knockdown, survive round seven and have his best round of the fight in the eighth. Rosado answered in round nine, roaring back with a flurry of very heavy power punches that Love somehow managed to take and remain on his feet.

The SB Nation scorecard read 96-93 for Rosado after the final round.

But our scorecard didn’t matter as the official scorecards were 95-94 Rosado, 97-92 Love, 95-94 Love. J’Leon Love won the split decision while fans booed the announcement.

There were enough close rounds to justify seeing it close for Love, but certainly not 97-92.

With the win, Love improved to 16-0.
