Leo Santa Cruz has been one of the more visible fighters of the past couple years, no doubt in large part due to his highly unusual fight frequency as well as an appearance on CBS in his last bout. Santa Cruz took on Alexander Munoz on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s bout with Robert Guerrero.
Mayweather vs. Guerrero results: Leo Santa Cruz batters Alexander Munoz
Leo Santa Cruz punished Alexander Munoz over five rounds en route to a stoppage victory on the Mayweather vs Guerrero undercard.
Munoz was a former champion but had moved up in weight late in his career while Santa Cruz was natural at super bantamweight.
That size and power showed early as Santa Cruz was moving Munoz with his punches and keeping his attention, although Munoz did still stand and try to mix it up. Munoz’s heart made for an exciting watch, but was not a good strategy as Santa Cruz was able to crack him with both fists seemingly at will.
Santa Cruz’s power and high connect rate caught up with Munoz in round three as he bounced Munoz around the ring and caused him to tumble to the canvas. Munoz was able to get up and make it to the next round, where he took more punishment. His corner chose to let him go out again after the fourth round though they did seem close to stopping it at that point.
Santa Cruz continued pouring on the punishment in the fifth and scored another knockdown. Munoz’s corner entered the ring after he got to his feet, effectively “throwing in the towel.”
Santa Cruz ran his record to 24-0-1 with the victory.
