With their win over South Carolina Tuesday afternoon, North Carolina becomes the eighth and final team into Omaha for the 2013 College World Series. They had to wait longer than expected -- two rain postponements pushed the series back 48 hours -- but the Tar Heels are in, joining NC State, Mississippi State, Oregon State, Indiana, Louisville, UCLA and LSU in Omaha.
College World Series 2013 bracket update: Field set for Omaha
The super regional round is officially over, providing the final piece to the eight-team playoff for college baseball’s ultimate prize.

It’s a field that is conspicuously different from years past with the absence of the Gamecocks, who had reached the finals of the CWS in three consecutive years, winning titles in 2010 and ‘11. Another notable absentee is No. 2 overall seed Vanderbilt, who set an SEC record this year with a 26-3 conference record and was viewed as a serious contender for the national championship. Vandy headlines a list of five national seeds that failed to make it out of a second round filled with upsets.
Initial matchups have been set, and will play this Saturday and Sunday. Below is the CWS field divided into bracket pairings, with game times and TV coverage listed in italics. See the complete bracket at NCAA.com. All times Eastern, national seeds in parentheses:
