After seven years at Brisbane (née Queensland) Roar, Rado Vidošić is moving to Sydney FC. The long-time Roar assistant coach will shift into the same role with the Sky Blues under manager Frank Farina. The pair worked together in Brisbane from 2006-09 while Vidošić served as youth coach, assistant manager, caretaker, full-time manager and technical director over his tenure at the Roar.

Four years after their separation in Brisbane, the Farina and Vidošić team is back together at Sydney FC.

Vidošić finally got his chance to be first team manager last season after Ange Postecoglou departed for Melbourne Victory. The full-time job was a reward for his long service to the club but Vidošić was unable to capture the magic that Postecoglou brought in two championship seasons at the Roar. Though widely regarded as the tactical mind behind the Roar’s stunning success, Vidošić could not translate that into the role of manager. After just eleven games, Vidošić was asked to move upstairs as technical director and the club hired Mike Mulvey to replace him as first team manager.
Now free of his responsibilities in Queensland, Vidošić is moving down to Sydney where he will serve again as Farina’s top assistant. If there were any questions about how the Sky Blues intend to use Vidošić‘s skill set, the quotes provided in the club’s press release make it very clear why he is desired by Sydney.

“Having worked with [Vidošić] before I know he is a first class coach and will give the squad an extra influence. He has a real analytical and tactical brain and is very experienced in bringing the best out [of] players.”
Sydney CEO Tony Pignata:
“Rado has a great track record and knows exactly what it takes to win an A-League championship. We are delighted to have him on board and I believe his knowledge and tactical expertise will help Sydney FC achieve success on the pitch this season.”
Sydney missed out on the finals for the second time in three seasons in 2012/13, Farina’s first with the Sky Blues. At present, Sydney have a very experienced but consequently very old team in place heading into the pre-season. Vidošić will have players capable of implementing his tactical schemes but he is likely to need more depth and younger players to buttress the well known players at the top of the roster who will not necessarily be able to play every week.
