Oliver Bozanic will join FC Luzern

Central Coast’s left-sided midfielder departs the A-League with Switzerland as his final destination.

Oliver Bozanic will join Swiss Super League side FC Luzern on a two-year contract, according to the FFA. The 24-year-old left-sided midfielder was given permission to fly to Switzerland this week for a medical and came to terms with the eighth-place finisher in the 2012/13 Swiss season. Only paperwork remains to formalize Bozanic's transfer from Central Coast Mariners.

Within the past month it was rumored that Bozanic would move to the K-League, with Busan IPark the expected location. Yet in recent days the Swiss Super League came to the fore as the new home of the Mariners midfielder. Central Coast have publicly asked that Luzern wait until the appropriate paperwork is complete to formally announce the signing, though the Swiss club have already posted such a report on their website.

Said Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull:

“While we do expect Oliver to be transferred and are satisfied that we’ve helped groom yet another young Australian player, we believe FC Luzern should have finalized the appropriate paperwork before making any announcement. Naturally, we wish Oliver all the best in the Swiss top flight should the deal be finalized. however it is now up to FC Luzern to fulfill their duties regarding the transfer.”

This is the second time in the past month that an A-League club has expressed disappointment with the behavior of a European transfer partner. Sydney FC yielded to the wishes of Parma regarding Terry Antonis' move to Italy and now Central Coast are less than pleased with Luzern.

While Bozanic’s exit was expected, the reality of the move leaves Graham Arnold with only 16 players under contract at the Mariners. Though rumors of Marcos Flores joining the club have spread in the past few days, at the present, Arnold has quite a bit of work to do in rebuilding the side that will enter 2013/14 as A-League championship holders.
