After an exciting Day 1 in Omaha that saw Mississippi State and Indiana pull out close games, the teams in Group 2 get their turn on Sunday. This bracket group holds two of the three remaining national seeds and both of the tournament favorites in North Carolina and LSU. If both schools can win their first games, they’ll meet up in the most anticipated game of the entire tournament. There’s no guarantee that we’ll see that matchup, however, as they’ll have to fight through two very tough teams to get there.
College World Series 2013 schedule: Tournament favorites in action on Day 2 in Omaha
Group 2 play gets underway on Sunday, with No. 1 North Carolina and No. 4 LSU looking to meet up in the winner’s bracket.

N.C. State and North Carolina is an intriguing contest. The in-state rivals have already met up three times this season, splitting a rain-shortened series early in the regular season and going a marathon 18 innings in an ACC tournament game that North Carolina took 2-1. Outside of the immediate consequences for the CWS, the two schools are hoping the contest could spark a rivalry that will fuel college baseball interest in North Carolina much like South Carolina and Clemson’s postseason battles have popularized the sport in South Carolina.
UCLA and LSU will begin later in the evening and will feature two of the nation’s premier pitching staffs, and the probable matchup between Adam Plutko and Aaron Nola could make for a fierce pitchers’ duel. The Tigers do have a major advantage offensively, so they could pull away in this one if they can get into UCLA’s pen early.
Here’s the schedule and TV coverage for Day 2:
