2013 NASCAR at Michigan International Speedway race day weather forecast

Possible rain showers and storms this morning, but should see 400 miles of NASCAR racing later this afternoon

For the most part, the weather forecast this weekend at Michigan International Speedway has gone as expected. The rain on radar during the Nationwide race Saturday made things interesting but they were still able to run the whole race. The NASCAR Sprint Cup series will be able to follow and run all 400 miles.

As expected, showers and storms worked across southern Michigan and across Michigan International Speedway during the overnight and early morning hours. While I don’t anticipate much rain this morning, a couple showers and storms could form this morning. Going to keep the threat of rain in the forecast until midday as a cold front is expected to clear out of southern Michigan between noon and 1 p.m. EDT.

Once we reach the afternoon, skies will become mostly sunny, afternoon temperatures will be near 80 degrees with a west-northwest wind between 10 to 20 mph. If there is any rain this morning the wind will aide in drying the track.

The only weather related problem I see with today’s Quicken Loans 400, is a potential delay to the start of the race. Worst case scenario a rain showers or thunderstorms moves in between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. EDT, then that would delay the start of the race because of track drying.
