Sydney FC have bolstered its front line by signing Corey Gameiro to a two-year contract. The Young Socceroo is currently in Turkey for the U20 World Cup and will join the Sky Blues upon his return. The 20-year-old spent the final three months of the 2012/13 season on loan from Fulham at Wellington Phoenix.
Corey Gameiro signs with Sydney FC
The Young Socceroo will join the club’s pre-season training when he returns from the U20 World Cup in Turkey.

Gameiro’s signing had been rumored after he was released from Fulham at the end of the season. The striker grew up in Wollongong and sees the move as a bit of a homecoming. Having proven himself as a reliable goal scorer in U19 tournaments, Sydney will want to see Gameiro score more frequently in the A-League than his one in seven matches at the Phoenix last season.
Said Sky Blues manager Frank Farina in a club press release:
“Corey is another good addition to the squad ahead of the upcoming season. He made an impression in a short period of time with Wellington last year, has played well for the U20s and we’re pleased he’ll join us for the next two seasons. He is a good young striker and he will fit in nicely with what we are trying to achieve at Sydney FC over the next few years.”
