2013 NASCAR at Kentucky Speedway rain delay weather update

The start of the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway is delayed due to rain showers this afternoon and evening. Will they be able to race tonight or will it be tomorrow?

As of 7:15 p.m. ET, light rain showers were moving over Kentucky Speedway, and the Sprint Cup race remains delayed due to weather.

A cluster of showers and storms just west and south of the track are keeping the surface wet, and this weather could impact the track through 8 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. ET. Some of these showers and storms will begin to weaken, decrease and break-up, providing more windows to get the race in. Sunset for Kentucky Speedway is at 9:08 p.m., which is when the heating of the day fades, so the question remains: Will Kentucky Speedway end up under one of the dry windows so the race can get in today? After all, showers and storms still remain a threat until 10 to 11 p.m. ET this evening.

I remain cautiously optimistic, but there will be a point that it will be to late to start. If NASCAR decides to postpone the race, they will try again Sunday at noon.

Unfortunately, the forecast for Sunday is very similar to what we had today. Scattered showers and storms will begin to form as we head into the late morning and afternoon. Then more clusters, some heavy, will begin to form as we go later into the afternoon and evening. There will be dry breaks, but like today, they could be very small windows.
