Hanley Ramirez injury: Dodgers SS out with hamstring tightness

Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez has been scratched from Friday’s game with tightness in his left hamstring.

USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers will be without shortstop Hanley Ramirez Friday as they take on the Atlanta Braves. Ramirez has been sidelined with tightness in his left hamstring, reports Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com

Ramirez began the season on the disabled list following surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb. After his return from that injury, he was able to play in just three games before pulling his hamstring on May 3 and missing the rest of the month. According to Gurnick, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly fears that Ramirez will once again land on the DL as a result of this latest hamstring issue. Ramirez has been hitting the ball well in the limited time he has been able to play this season. He has a .333/.381/.667 batting line in 21 plate appearances thus far.

Luis Cruz is playing shortstop for Los Angeles in place of Ramirez. Cruz has split time at short with Justin Sellers this season in Ramirez's absence, but both players have struggled. Cruz is hitting just .134/.183/.175 over 105 plate appearances, and Sellers is batting just .191/.267/.250 in 76 trips to the plate.
