Once again, Williams proved to be too much for the Russian star, as she earned yet another major championship.

Williams extended her unbeaten match streak to 31 by taking down the second-ranked Russian, something she has been able to do in 14 of their 16 career meetings.
The match was competitive but never really in doubt, with Williams always in control after going down 0-2 in the first set. Overall, Williams smacked 10 aces and 29 winners, compared to only two and 10, respectively, for Sharapova. Fittingly, the match ended on a 124 MPH ace by Williams, who exalted afterwards in triumph.
For Williams, the championship gives her 16 major titles under her belt. Roland Garros has proven the toughest for her to win, as this was her first victory at Roland Garros since 2002 and second overall.
Williams now looks forward to Wimbeldon. The grass courts haven’t been much of an issue for Williams over her career, as she has racked up five titles on England’s hallowed ground, including last year’s victory.
