Even if you don’t like sports, there are many sports logos with which you may be familiar. But here’s the thing: even if you DO like sports -- even if you instantly recognize a myriad of logos and create the semiotic link in your head to the team they represent on a daily basis -- they’re insanely hard to recreate from memory alone.
Draw a sports logo from memory: Los Angeles Angels
Drawing a sports logo from memory is harder than it sounds. See how well we did and try it for yourself.

This is our ongoing series where we attempt to recreate these logos using only a drawing implement and our own all-too-fallible human memories. Please enjoy our horrible attempt at the logo and accompanying anecdote, then give it a shot for yourself in the comments below. Have fun!
[Pro tip: If you don’t have a scanner or a drawing program, you can draw and save your file for free over at One Motion!]
The Los Angeles Angels may or may not actually be in Anaheim. That's old news by now. But outside of their stadium is a gigantic letter "A" with a halo on it. That is allegedly their team logo. And after every victory, whether the team be at home or on the road, the halo of this enormous letter is illuminated. It's a bit ostentatious, sure, but what else are you going to do? It's not like they can fly Christopher Lloyd around the outside of the stadium on wires after every win. (Note to self: write one million letters to the Angels to try to make this happen.)
But my point is the Angels have a hundred-foot-high* statue of their logo and I STILL can’t remember exactly what it looks like. But here’s my best shot at trying to remember!
Nailed it.
