The club announced that they’ve re-signed forward Erik Condra to a two-year contract. They then tweeted that the Trenton, Michigan native’s annual average value will be $1.25 million per season against the salary cap. This keeps the club under their internal, $50 million cap (they’re currently paying $49.7 million in salary, according to Capgeek) though they still have to take care of restricted free agent defensemen Jared Cowen and Patrick Wiercioch.
Condra, a 26-year-old, was drafted 211th overall in the 2006 NHL Draft. After four years at Notre Dame, Condra spent a year in the minors in Binghamton, followed by a season (2010-11) where he split time between the AHL and NHL. He became a regular in 2011-12 and has remained with the team since then.
Last season, Condra put up four goals and 12 points in 48 games. His playoff performance was rather encouraging, as he had six assists and seven points in 10 games. His role will likely have a chance to increase with the departure of Daniel Alfredsson.
