White Sox ace Jake Peavy has been activated from the 15-day disbled list and will start when Chicago faces the Braves on Saturday, according to the team.

The White Sox have activated starting pitcher Jake Peavy from the DL and he will take the ball on Saturday against the Braves.

Peavy had been on the disabled list since June 6. He left his start on June 4 against the Mariners in the third inning with pain in his left ribcage and X-rays revealed a broken rib. Before that injury, he was 6-4 for the White Sox with a 4.30 ERA over 67 innings.
The White Sox are currently 37-56 and in last place in the AL Central. Getting Peavy back now will do little to help them this season, but it does give them a chance to get him enough work to draw interest from possible contenders. The 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner has still posted excellent strikeout and walk rates when healthy, and if teams believe he can stay on the mound for the remainder of the season, he could become one of the most coveted players on the trade market.
The Rangers, Red Sox, Nationals and Diamondbacks have all pursued Cubs starter Matt Garza to some degree over the past week, and if Garza is traded, the teams that miss out on him could turn their attention to Peavy. The right-hander does carry a heavy price tag, however: he is making $14.5 million this season and again in 2014.
