Kings, Trevor Lewis avoid arbitration with 1-year deal

The Los Angeles Kings and forward Trevor Lewis agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.325 million against the salary cap, Darren Dreger tweeted Tuesday.

Lewis and the Kings were scheduled to meet with an arbitrator on Aug. 2. The deal keeps both sides away from arbitration hearings, and gets the 24-year-old settled and on the Kings’ roster before training camp.

Lewis is, somewhat oddly, coming off a career-best offensive season. Coming off two seasons where he just got a cup of coffee in the NHL, Lewis made the big club for good in 2010-11, and spent the next two seasons playing at least 72 games. He had nine points on the Kings’ run to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2012. In 2012-13, his best offensive season, he had 14 points in 48 games during the shortened season. He again played every game for the Kings in the playoffs.
