2013 Canadian Open scores: Brandt Snedeker leads after Hunter Mahan withdraws

It was an eventful moving day at the RBC Canadian Open on Saturday, both for the happenings on and off the course. Weather caused a delay of over an hour and shortly after play resumed, 36-hole leader Hunter Mahan withdrew from the tournament after learning his wife, Kandi, had gone into labor.

Mahan was on the driving range when his agent received a call informing him of the upcoming arrival of the couple’s first child. Mahan left the range shortly after, withdrew from the tournament despite holding a two-shot lead and flew to Dallas to be with his wife. Mahan forfeited the chance at a significant payday as he would have won over $1 million had he held on for the win.

Mahan’s decision to withdraw opened the top spot on the leaderboard, and Brandt Snedeker took advantage with a 9-under 63. Snedeker moved to 14-under and leads by one stroke over David Lingmerth heading into the final round. Matt Kuchar moved into a tie for third at 12-under with an 8-under 64, while Dustin Johnson is 11-under after shooting a 63.

John Merrick took over a share of the lead at 11-under after Mahan withdrew, but quickly dropped down the leaderboard with a 39 on the front nine. He rebounded over the final four holes, including an eagle at No. 18 to get back to even par on the day. Bubba Watson also shot a 72 on the day and will open the final round tied for 14th at 9-under.
