The Dallas Stars have acquired forward Shawn Horcoff from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Philip Larsen and a seventh-round selection in the 2016 NHL Draft, the club announced Friday morning.

The Dallas Stars confirmed the acquisition of forward Shawn Horcoff from the Edmonton Oilers.

Reports of the trade broke on Thursday night and came hours after the Stars completed a blockbuster, seven-player trade with the Boston Bruins for forward Tyler Seguin. Horcoff was openly available as Edmonton manager Craig MacTavish stated that he was looking to deal the Oilers captain this offseason during a radio interview with an Edmonton-based radio station.
Dallas was looking to add more depth at the center position and managed to do so with one day worth of trades. Horcoff has two-years remaining on a six-year, $33 million contract that carries an annual average value of $5.5 million against the salary cap.
Edmonton was looking to add to their defense corps. The 23-year-old Larsen has one-year remaining on his contract ($1.025 million against the cap) and will be a restricted free agent next season.
