After being bought out by the Toronto Maple Leafs, defenseman Mike Komisarek didn’t wait long to find a new home.

The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to a 1-year contract with Komisarek worth $700,000, according to Aaron Ward of TSN. Komisarek spent the past four seasons with the Maple Leafs, though he rarely dressed for the club this season. He played only four games in the NHL in 2012-13, while spending 13 games between the regular season and playoffs with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Picked seventh overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Komisarek made it to the NHL full-time by 2005-06. The Long Island native signed a 5-year, $23.5 million deal with the Maple Leafs in 2009. He never quite lived up to the deal, however, only playing one full season in four years with the club. The Leafs used a compliance buyout on him just prior to the opening of the UFA signing period.

Komisarek, a stay-at-home defenseman, has 14 career goals and 77 career points 519 regular season games.
