Georgia high school football player dies after injury in scrimmage
An 11th-grader from Creekside High School in Fulton County, Ga., died Friday from an injury sustained in a preseason scrimmage.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of this student,” Fulton County schools spokeswoman Samantha Evans told the Atlanta Journal Constitution on Saturday morning. “This is truly a horrific way to begin a school year.”
After sustaining the injury, the player was transported to Georgia Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
The type of injury sustained has not been released to the public, but it is a tragic reminder of how violent football can be, at any level of competition.
