Why Watch: Tune in to Texas’ first time under the Friday night lights, as the 2013 college football season gets rolling. An old rivalry is renewed, as the Texas Tech Red Raiders take on the SMU Mustangs. The Raiders bring a new look to the field, under first-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury and starting a true freshman QB on the road. SMU’s strong-armed senior QB, Garrett Gilbert, will look to lead the Mustangs to victory in the team’s home debut.

2. Cardiff City vs. Everton (Premier League)
Details: Saturday, August 31 @ 10:00 AM ET - Cardiff City Stadium - Cardiff, Wales, U.K.
Watch Here: NBCSN on XFINITY
Why Watch: The biggest surprise in the young Premier League season came from Cardiff City last Sunday, as the team won 3-2 against Manchester City. Cardiff striker, Fraizer Campbell, scored twice on headers in the team’s marquee win vs. Man. City. The threat created by Campbell’s ability to place headers with lethal accuracy, makes him an X-factor on any Cardiff corner kick. However, Everton has dominated the ball this season, becoming second in the league with a 64.7 possession percentage, yet the team has not claimed a win in The Prem. this season.

3. Mississippi State vs. Oklahoma State (NCAA Football)
Details: Saturday, August 31 @ 3:30 PM ET - Reliant Stadium - Houston, TX
Watch Here: ESPN2 on XFINITY
Why Watch: The Oklahoma State Cowboys are the preseason favorites to win the Big 12, but before they conquer their conference, they must face the SEC’s Mississippi State Bulldogs. OK State brings a two-QB system, senior Clint Chelf and sophomore J.W. Walsh. The Cowboys’ coach said fans will likely see both QBs on the field against the Bulldogs. While Miss. State is replacing three starters in their secondary, they have a senior RB (LaDarius Perkins) that rushed for 1,000+ yards in the SEC. Will Perkins establish the run and keep the high scoring Cowboys off the field, or will we see an Oklahoma Statement game from the early anointed best of the Big 12?

4. LSU vs. TCU (NCAA Football)
Details: Saturday, August 31 @ 9:00 PM ET – AT&T Stadium – Arlington, TX
Watch Here: ESPN on XFINITY
Why Watch: This game is guaranteed to be full of hard hits, and will have you on the edge of your seat from kickoff to the final whistle. TCU’s all-Big 12 sophomore, Devonte Fields, can wreak havoc on an opposing QB (10 sacks in ‘12), and LSU’s Anthony Johnson is stepping in to anchor the D-line (he’s 6-3, 300+ lbs. and runs a 4.7.). If you want to see a game with big hits, and lots of action, tune into LSU vs. TCU on Saturday night.

5. Liverpool vs. Manchester United (Premier League)
Details: Sunday, September 1 @ 8:30 AM ET - Anfield Stadium - Anfield, Liverpool, U.K.
Watch Here: NBCSN on XFINITY
Why Watch: There are Premier League games and then there is Liverpool vs. Manchester United! There is no love loss in this rivalry, my guess is it’s likely the ref’s cards will come out Sunday morning! Daniel Sturridge, will look to find the back of the net for a league-leading third time Sunday, and give Liverpool a bump up at the League Table. While United brings a winning pedigree to the pitch, as they’ve not lost in their last 13 away games. Van Persie is on goal watch, as he’s scored four times in his last three PL appearances against Liverpool.
