The Pittsburgh Penguins have added to their coaching staff for the 2013-14 season.
Penguins hire Jacques Martin as assistant coach
The long-time NHL bench boss joins the Pittsburgh staff for 2013-14.

Pittsburgh announced today that the club had hired Jacques Martin, a former head coach in five different NHL markets, as an assistant coach. Martin joins a coaching staff under head coach Dan Bylsma that includes fellow assistants Tony Granato and Todd Reirden. The announcement was made on Friday by general manager Ray Shero.
“Jacques is a highly-respected and accomplished coach who will be a tremendous addition to our staff,” Shero said. “He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our organization because of his extensive background as a head coach and an assistant.”
“It’s such an exciting opportunity to come to Pittsburgh and work with Dan, Tony, and Todd,” Martin said. “The expectations are always high for the Penguins, but I look forward to the challenge and to helping Dan and his staff in any way possible.”
Martin last coached during the 2011-12 season with the Montreal Canadiens. He was fired 32 games into that season. Martin has 1,294 career wins dating back to his first job with St. Louis in 1986-87. He most famously spent nine seasons in Ottawa, where he led the Senators to within one game of the Stanley Cup Final in 2003 before losing in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final. He also spent a few years in Florida before coaching Montreal to a surprise Eastern Conference Final berth in 2010. That team was finally taken down by the Philadelphia Flyers.
