Yasiel Puig injury: Dodgers OF won’t play Tuesday due to sore knee

Another day, another Yasiel Puig injury. Still, the Dodgers march on.

Doug Pensinger

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig will likely sit on Tuesday to rest his sore right knee, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told MLB.com's Ken Gurnick.

For more on Puig and the Dodgers, head over to True Blue LA.

Puig left in the sixth inning of Los Angeles' 10-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday after suffering a mild knee strain, apparently as a result of an awkward slide into third base on Adrian Gonzalez's single. Puig's knee has "bothered him a little for some time," per Gurnick, and was worse after the play.

Puig stayed in the game briefly and eventually scored on Hanley Ramirez's sacrifice fly. He was replaced by Skip Schumaker in the bottom half of the inning.

Mattingly did not seem concerned about the long-term seriousness of Puig’s injury, according to Gurnick, after receiving a report of the examination and treatment Puig received from team and local doctors.

Puig entered Monday hitting .351/.409/.566 with 14 home runs in 337 plate appearances. Despite his injury, the Dodgers became the first team since the 1954 Cleveland Indians to put together a 52-13 stretch, notes True Blue LA's Eric Stephen.
