For 76 minutes, Guyana appeared to be capable of holding on to a shocking draw with Mexico. El Tri had already qualified for the hexagonal round of qualifying and played a slightly experimental team, but Mexico were still expected to beat Guyana easily.

Well, they did. Eventually. Andres Guardado scored on a half-volley following a corner kick in the 77th minute, and from there the floodgates opened. El Tri went on to score four more times in the next 13 minutes to record an easy 5-0 win over Guyana.
Oribe Peralta was next up after Guardado, poking in an assist from the criminally unlucky Javier Hernandez, who should have scored at least three times prior to Guardado's opener. A Charles Pollard own goal followed, and Chicharito finally got the goal he deserved in the 84th minute. Substitute Angel Reyna capped off the scoring with an absolute stunner a minute later.
Guyana will go home somewhere in the high six figures richer after hosting this match in Houston, Texas. Mission accomplished.
