Behind goals from Lionel Messi and Gonzolo Higuain, Argentina maintained their spot atop the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table with a 2-1 win over Chile on Tuesday. Argentina built itself a 2-0 lead with two goals that came just three minutes apart and didn't cede a goal until Felipe Gutierrez broke through in the 90th minute.
Chile vs. Argentina: Lionel Messi leads way to 2-1 victory
Lionel Messi and Gonzolo Higuain each score goals as Argentina remains atop CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying.

With the win, Argentina sits on 20 points, three clear of second-place Ecuador. Chile is even on points with three teams, but currently sits sixth in the table on goal-difference tiebreaker.
In the 27th minute, Messi got his 14th goal in 14 appearances under head coach Alejandro Sabella, continuing to erase the notion that he does not score for the national team. Higuain followed that up with a strike in the 30th minute off an assist from Angel Di Maria. Higuain was unable to finish the match, though, coming off in the second half with what appeared to be an ankle injury following a harsh tackle.
