MLB roundup: Nationals avoid arb with Strasburg, Casilla returns to Orioles
The Nationals eschew arbitration process with Strasburg, the Orioles bring back Casilla and more

The Nationals agreed to terms with Stephen Strasburg on Friday, avoiding what could have been a painful arbitration hearing.
Strasburg will earn $3.975 million, plus performance bonuses, for the 2014 season, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman. Those incentives can total up to $125,000, per Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post. Strasburg earned $3.9 million in 2013 in the last year of the major league deal he signed when he was drafted, going 8-9 with 191 strikeouts in 183 innings.
Baltimore brings back Casilla on minor league deal
The Baltimore Orioles announced that they signed second baseman Alexi Casilla to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, according to Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com.
Casilla played in 62 games for the Orioles last season, amassing a .214/.268/.295 slash line with one home run and nine stolen bases. He'll provide depth for the Orioles at a position that already features Ryan Flaherty, the recently-acquired Jemile Weeks and prospect Jonathan Schoop.
Kansas City avoids arbitration with backup catcher Hayes
The Kansas City Royals announced Friday that they signed catcher Brett Hayes to a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration.
Hayes will earn $600,000 in the 2014 season with an additional $20,000 in performance bonuses according to the Associated Press. He hit .278 with one home run in five games for the Royals last season. He will back up Salvador Perez.
Rodriguez claimed by Arizona
The Diamondbacks announced that they claimed southpaw Santos Rodriguez off waivers.
Previously designated for assignment by the Chicago White Sox, the 6'6" Rodriguez split time between Double-A and Triple-A in 2013, recording a 4.91 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 33 relief appearances. He should serve as organizational depth for the team.
