The A-League’s top striker is on the move with Melbourne Victory as his destination at the conclusion of this season. Besart Berisha, who moved to Brisbane Roar ahead of the 2011/12 season and won the championship that season, has scored 41 goals in 65 games. The Victory, who have had a busy week already, will welcome Berisha as an International Marquee for the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons.
Besart Berisha will join Melbourne Victory next season
Berisha won the A-League golden boot in his first season at Brisbane and is among the competition’s top players.
Berisha: I want to tell you first that I am leaving Brisbane Roar at the end of this season. Some of you will not agree with my decision.
— Roar Talk (@RoarObsession) January 22, 2014 According to a Victory press release, Berisha will move to Melbourne in July. Kevin Muscat was quoted in the release, saying:
”Besart has been performing at the highest level week-in, week-out for Brisbane and has caused plenty of headaches for opposition defenders and coaches, including myself. He’s a proven goal scorer and a player that we can’t wait to welcome to Melbourne Victory.
“It’s certainly well documented how competitive Besart is, and that is something every A-League fan surely admires in him.”
The release described Berisha’s arrival as a “massive recruiting coup for new coach Kevin Muscat.” Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Albanian will miss Friday night’s home game against Wellington Phoenix after picking up two yellow cards in last weekend’s 0-0 draw at Perth Glory.
