Rostyn Griffiths signs with Perth Glory

The local product is the Glory’s second signing in the January window.

Twenty-three months after leaving the A-League for China, Rostyn Griffiths is back, this time with Perth Glory. The 25-year-old holding midfielder spent two years with Guangzhou R&F, featuring 34 times, but returned home to Western Australia two weeks ago to begin training with the Glory. According to a club press release, Griffiths is under contract through the 2014/15 season.

The 6’1” Griffiths has played previously at Adelaide United, as an injury replacement, North Queensland Fury and most recently Central Coast Mariners, appearing 71 times in the A-League between 2009 and 2012. When he left the Mariners after a premiership season, his transfer fee to Guangzhou R&F was reportedly the highest ever for an A-League player at AU $1.3m.

Said interim manager Kenny Lowe:

”Rostyn is a fantastic player who is composed on the ball and good in the air. We’re very excited to have such an experienced, dynamic and powerful midfielder join our squad...We now have an abundance of quality in the midfield area so it creates great competition for places in the team.

“It’s also great to have another Western Australia player returning home and is further proof we are setting up the right foundations at Perth Glory.”

Having trained with the club throughout January, Griffiths will be available to play in Sunday’s Australia Day game at Pirtek Stadium against Western Sydney Wanderers.
