No. 9 Baylor vs. Savannah State recap: Bears take care of Tigers, 80-50

The Bears used a balanced scoring attack for an easy victory.

Cooper Neill

The Baylor Bears had four players score in double digits, led by Taurean Price with 15 off the bench, in an 80-50 shellacking of the Savannah State Tigers. No. 9 Baylor came into the game with a huge advantage on paper, and it played out as one would expect.

Savannah State took a lead at 2-0 to start the game via a jumper from Khiry White, which is the only time the Tigers would be out in front. Baylor didn't look back from there, putting together an 11-2 run immediately following the White jumper. Every field goal on that run was either scored or assisted on by Kenny Chery, who finished the night with a full stat line: seven points, four assists, four rebounds and only a single turnover.

Prince was tied for the game-high in scoring with the Tigers' Joshua Montgomery, who also came off of the bench. Montgomery was the only consistent source of offense for the Tigers all night, as no other scorer topped seven points -- Jyles Smith and Alante Fenner both reached that mark.

As a whole, the Baylor Bears shot above the 50 percent mark, while the Tigers didn’t even get close, hitting exactly one-third of their shot attempts for a tidy 33.3 shooting percentage. The Bears also dominated on the glass, and had a 41-31 advantage in that area.

Baylor's only loss so far this season came against the Syracuse Orange, who are undefeated and No. 2 in the country. The next game for Baylor is its Big 12 opener against Iowa State on Tuesday, while Savannah State opens its MEAC season against the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks on Monday.
