Journeyman forward Ryan Griffiths is back in the A-League after penning a deal with Adelaide United. The 32-year-old former Newcastle Jets attacker has been back-and-forth between Australia, Romania and China over the past dozen years, though his latest spell at the Jets ended only back in February. Griffiths scored 19 times in less than two seasons at Newcastle between 2011/12 and 2012/13 before scoring 9 in 22 at Chinese second division side Beijing Baxy in 2013.

The 32-year-old returns to Australia to play for Josep Gombau.

Adelaide’s General Manager for Football Operations, Michael Petrillo, explained the signing in a club press release:
“Ryan is an experienced player who Josep feels will suit our game and believes will be a very valuable acquisition, adding depth and flexibility to the squad.”
Griffiths, who will spend the rest of the season with the Reds, will join his new teammates on Wednesday night and is expected to pass a medical and receive his international transfer clearance in time to play on Saturday against Brisbane Roar.
