Former Sydney FC defender Antony Golec is about to be a former Adelaide United defender, as well. The 23-year-old will, assuming he passes his medical, be joining Chinese Super League side Liaoning Whowin. Golec, who moved to Adelaide in 2011, has made just 28 appearances with the Reds and was looking for a new opportunity.
Antony Golec leaving Adelaide United for China
The 23-year-old defender was unable to crack the starting XI and will try again in the CSL.
Michael Petrillo, who was busy today also making an announcement regarding Ryan Griffiths, described Golec’s intent and the club’s willingness to let him move on in a club press release:
”There was an expression of interest from a Chinese club for Antony’s services and he told us it is an opportunity he would like to explore. In the unlikely event that the medical doesn’t work out then the door is open for him to return to Adelaide.
“We can understand it has been a tough season for Antony as he’s found it hard to break into the first team, but he goes with our best wishes and hopefully things work out for him over there.”
Golec has been stuck behind the likes of Jon McKain, Osama Malik and Nigel Boogaard this year and apart from injury, did not appear likely to overtake any of them. The young defender has already left Adelaide and will not return to the team if his medical is successful in Shenyang.
